WHY DO YOUNG PEOPLE JOIN GANGS?

Below are some of the main reasons why young adults and children are pushed to join gangs and take part in violent crimes:

Lack Of Family; this is the lack of warmth that an individual receives from from their parents, siblings and relatives. Research has shown that those who do not have constant family members are less likely to be exposed to the ability of being compassionate and happy. This then makes these individuals more likely to find an alternate family, i.e. a gang.

The Environment, lack of Opportunities and quality education; this is an important factor that is essential to the growth of a young adult. These individuals need to be surrounded by a community environment that provides them with opportunities that allow them to excel in the real world. This means having high quality education accessible to all and to harbour a positive, uplifting and thriving society. In other words, the community these individuals live in should be clean, should provide the basic necessities along with a standard quality of life.

3. Abuse; research shows that those who have troubled early childhoods where they have experienced or witnessed abuse are more likely to find themselves in gang activity. This is because they have been exposed to a reality that is full of hate and physical violence therefore they do not subconsciously know that there is a life beyond what their early childhood has shown them.
